Layers of Sound

North London based Mike Newstead, A.K.A. Layers of Sound, is an up and coming funky house producer and DJ starting to make a name for himself on the London scene for his original productions and a string of funky house DJ residencies, including his long running night with his DJ buddy Rhidian7, “It Takes Two”. After being classically trained on the piano in his childhood, Mike left all that behind and focused his attentions on everything electronic, and so began his journey through dance music. From humble beginnings using a 4 track software sample player and a Casio keyboard, the set-up has gradually progressed, piece by piece, to a fully functioning loft studio. Having collaborated with other vocalists and musicians, Mike has now completed a number of vocal funky house tracks which are now starting to get released (Double Shock Recordings, Refunkt Records, Lowered recordings, Queep Organic House). As a dj Mike has played at various venues in and around North London playing funky chunky house from bar chill to floor fill. A seamless blend of the hottest new tunes, classic tracks mixed with his original productions (Turnmills, Kinky Mambo, The Millennium Club, The Progress Bar, Lush, The Long Island Iced Tea Rooms & The Old Parr’s head), and he has also run his own nights around North London (Lascivious & It Takes Two).
