A Dark Storm
Detours are essentially an acoustic live trio comprising of acoustic guitars, trumpet, harmonica, harmonised vocals and percussion, but their studio recordings are far from that. Here, with their third studio album, they develop their acoustic sound further with the inclusion of drums, bass, saxophone, cello, mandolin, dobro, bottleneck slide guitar, electric guitar, accordion, hammond organ, and even didgeridoo. The lyrics to the songs on this album balance positivity and negativity very well. World suffering, personal struggles and loss are all dealt with, as are friendship, love and hope. This really is a cracking album that gets better with every listen. The closing title track is mind blowing and at over 11 minutes long still leaves you wanting more!
